Tips & Tricks for Long-Wearing Makeup

By Lori Rubin

Whether you’re working, traveling, raising a family or all of the above, we all have one common denominator - we’re BUSY! Busy means not having the time to touch up our makeup during the day when it is all we can do to sneak in a meal. But we’re in luck -- long-wearing makeup products are the way to go. Here’s some advice on what to use, how to use it properly, and which spring/summer colors will work this season.

Primer: If you use a primer under your foundation and concealer, it will keep your foundation on all day. Cover FX has two great primers. “Brite Prep FX” has a sheen to it that comes through the foundation and gives you a youthful look. Plus it has the added bonus of SPF 50! For oily skin, try Cover FX “Skin Prep FX.” It nourishes skin with anti-aging serum.

Concealer: Prime, then add your concealer. Again, I’d recommend Cover FX “Conceal FX” which comes in different shades to match your skin type.

Foundation: Peter Thomas Roth makes a beautiful base called ”Unwrinkle Foundation” with SPF 20. Or check out Cover FX for a full coverage foundation with a light touch. It comes with finishing powder that has a translucent glow.

Bronzers: For spring, it’s all about pinks and corals, bronzing it up, and adding a shimmery glow. To bronze it up, try tarte’s bronzer in “Park Avenue Princess” on cheekbones, across the nose, forehead and chin for a breezy summery, “I’m not trying too hard but I am a goddess,” look. Also tarte just came out with a bronze-colored Amazonian clay finishing powder just in time for summer. It decreases the look of pores and wrinkles and can be used on dry, normal or oily skin. It feels oh so soft.

Eyes: For long thick lashes, try “Neulash." For thick, filled in brows “neuveauBrow.” The best! Before applying eye shadow, try "Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Base" by tarte. Smooth this on your eyelid then apply your shadows on top. Your shadow will stay on all day.

For liner, you can’t go wrong with Amazonian Clay “emphasEYES” by tarte, which comes in many shades and is waterproof. The liners come with an easy-to-use brush. One side is a thin liner and the other side a smudge brush. My favorite is a perfect black line on top, that extends just past your eye and up a bit on the end as to lift your eye. A smudged underline in a bronze shade looks natural and pretty for daytime.

Cheeks: I love dollface or flush natural cheek stain by tarte all over the cheekbone. Or use one of tarte’s Amazonian Clay 12-hour blushes that come in 8 different shades to keep your blush for a long lasting effect.

Lips: Try “One Step” by Stila. Lip prime colors in a pop of pink and coral are genius. Apply this base to lips and let it dry. Then add your lip liner. I love Stila’s long-wearing “liquid lip color “on top, particularly “coral.” Then use tarte’s “charmed" or "peaceful natural" lip stain on top.

And finally…: At the end of your day, after your makeup is washed down the drain, your skin is there for life. Let it shine by nourishing with “Pure Maracuja Oil” by tarte. You only need three drops, so it will last you a long time. This precious oil will restore and rejuvenate all skin types. LOVELY!

Have fun and shine this Spring!
