5 Tips to Organize Your Life to Work & Play in Harmony

Working for myself is really the only option for me. I’ve had my own company(s) for over 15 years now and can’t see myself clocking in for anyone but my own worst boss -– me! Besides loving every minute of being my own slave-driving-boss, I’m a single mom to three and a half year old identical twin girls, so being available when necessary is important to me as a mom, and for the flexibility it provides for my lifestyle.

What I love about arranging my own hours and what-I-do-when, is that since I live and die (read: function) by my calendar, I can rearrange things on a whim to accommodate a last minute playdate, a party invitation, or even an unplanned get-away with the kids. What this does is give me freedom.

9 Ways to Use Social Media to Build Relationships

As much as you know you are supposed to embrace this and like it, you hear the words Facebook, Twitter, blogging, Linkedin, and now Google+ and you cringe, get an instant headache and often want to run off to the beach to escape right? Is this you?

I must admit, I was the same way until I learned how to use social media to build relationships. Friends, family, colleagues, co-workers, etc. are a necessity in our lives. Sometimes we don’t think of it in layman’s terms, but we have relationships with all these people –- good, bad or ugly -– we must interact with other people to get what we need or want in life.

Once I realized that in order to build and fill my business with the kind of clients I was looking for -– whether for my consulting or for my product line –- I needed to build relationships with them, and that using social media was a fast and direct method. So I followed my own advice and called upon some experts I know to train me how to use this medium that felt so foreign to me.

5 Ways to Tell If You Could Be an Entrepreneur

Deciding to become an entrepreneur is a huge life changing decision. It’s exhilarating and scary, all at the same time. But watching your creative idea come to life is an incredible feeling. We all (well most of us) want to achieve mogul status and be looked upon as a savvy service provider or an inventor extraordinaire.

Being your own boss means that you have chosen to follow your passion, honor your commitment and strive for success. Being an entrepreneur means being committed to your vision and doing whatever it takes to get there. A strong vision puts so much power in your hands mentally, spiritually and physically. A vision will help you deal with adversity and get you through it. Knowing that you have to eat, drink and breathe your vision to achieve success is the key to being an entrepreneur.

How to Market Your Business (or Yourself) on Facebook

I finally saw The Social Network this week, and it renewed my interest in how social networking functions, and how much we all crave connection. You may have heard people say, “You must create the know-like-and-trust factor to be successful online.” Well, I am here to say it’s true! The more I pay attention to what the most successful minds and brands are doing in social media, the more I see how they create community and trust, which ultimately turn into sales.

It all started right after college. I got a job in the film business as a costume supervisor. It had it all: multi-million dollar wardrobe budgets, intensity and hobnobbing with big celebs.
